To celebrate the launch of Tincup Whiskey in Australia, the brand has put together four cocktail recipes that demonstrate how fun and versatile this whiskey can be.
But don’t just let the Australians have all the fun, no matter where you are in the world, the rye spice, cinnamon and caramel flavours this brand embraces can easily be used to take the flavours of your next soiree up a notch.
Proximo Spirits Whiskey Specialist Hayley Dixon says: “It’s a great sipping whiskey, neat or with a few ice cubes, and also makes a good base for classic cocktails like the Manhattan and the Old Fashioned.”
“Heading into the warmer months, we wanted to keep things fresh and bold, so we’ve developed some fresh takes on classic cocktails, from a Tincup Buck to a Passionfruit Highball, to pair with your Aussie summer adventures – whether it’s a camping trip, after a spot of fishing or on the balcony overlooking the surf on a summer holiday.”
Rockies Summer
This cocktail is a twist on Joe Jones’s drink the ‘Summertime Sadness’. It is generally made using a Blanco tequila, but Tincup has swapped that out for a bourbon twist.
Ingredients
- 1oz (30ml) Tincup Original whiskey
- 1oz (30ml) Italian Aperitif
- 1oz (30ml) Ginger Cordial
- 1oz (30ml) Fresh Lemon
Garnish Grapefruit Slice
Instructions
‘Whip’ all ingredients with 1 ice cube in a cocktail shaker until the ice is dissolved. Pour over crushed ice into a chilled double rocks glass.
Mandarin Derby
This is a riff on a classic Brown Derby. It is generally made using bourbon, grapefruit, lemon, and honey but Tincup has used mandarin for the citrus kick instead and added Pastis.
Ingredients
- Two muddled Mandarin Segments
- 1.69oz (50ml) Tincup Original whiskey
- 0.33oz (10ml) Pastis
- 0.33oz (10ml) Honey Syrup
- 0.84oz (25ml) Lime Juice
Garnish Lime Wedge
Instructions
Add mandarin segments to a cocktail tin and gently muddle. Add remaining ingredients and ice. Hard shake for 20 seconds. Double strain into a chilled coupe glass.
Tincup Buck
If you are after a long, clean, refreshing drink, then you can’t really go past a Buck. It may seem simple but the beauty and complexity of flavour embraces the simple nature of this drink.
Ingredients
- 0.84oz (50ml) Tincup Original whiskey
- 5oz (150ml) Ginger Ale
Garnish Lemon or lime wedge
Instructions
Fill the glass with ice, and then add Tincup Whiskey and Ginger Ale.
Passionfruit Highball
No matter what the season, the addition of passionfruit gives any drink the tinge of an Indian summer. So pull out the passionfruit and pour out the whiskey for a tall cocktail that is beautifully balanced and flavoursome.

- 0.5oz (15ml) Simple Syrup
- 3oz (90ml) Light Tonic
