Created by legendary bartender Joe Gilmore (who was a student of Harry Craddock) at the Savoy Hotel’s American Bar in London, the Churchill Manhattan is (obviously) a riff on a Manhattan, which combined the politician’s beloved Scotch Whisky with Sweet Vermouth, Cointreau, and fresh Lime Juice. It is believed that the first printed recipe for the drink appeared in Esquire in 1939.
Stir all ingredients in. an ice-filled mixing glass, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
