Created at New York City bar Mother’s Ruin by bartender Sylvanus Johnson, Word To Your Cardamom is a tongue-in-cheek riff on a Margarita that uses Mezcal, the aperitif Barolo Chinato and Cardamom Syrup in addition to Tequila and Lime.
“Returning to New York, Vanessa had been looking forward to celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Margarita at a friend’s bar. But staff shortages and her unparrelled knowledge of Margarita riffs quickly saw her mixing up some Tequila and Lime variations behind that bar, instead of drinking them in front of it.”
Shake all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker and shake until chilled. Strain over ice into a rocks glass.

Cardamom Syrup – you can make Caramom Syrup at home, just by toasting six grams of cardamom in a saucepan over low heat. Add 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water to a saucepan and stir over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved. Let syrup cool, then strain into a container and refrigerate until ready to use. It will keep for two weeks.
