It’s a fair bet to assume that when you buy Tonic Water, you are normally buying it to mix with gin. But what if a series of meteors hurdled their way towards the earth and strangely landed on every gin distillery on the planet. What would you do with your Tonic if you could not get any gin?
Now while our meteor scenario may seem outrageously unlikely, after the last couple of years, we thought it was wise to be prepared for anything. Luckily, therefore, we have pulled together a bunch of 7 cocktails that use Tonic Water minus the Gin.
So, what could possibly replace gin? I hear you ask. Well, I think you might just be pleasantly surprised by the variety of bases. To make these concoctions, we’ve employed liquids as varied as Tequila, Pisco, Vodka and Liqueurs. In fact, there’s even got the odd vermouth and an aperitif wine. In fact, the number of things can actually be brought to life with a bitter, bubbly mixer would surprise you.
While your first reaction to Tonic may be to reach for a bottle of gin, you’d be hard [pressed to find an alcoholic liquid that isn’t invigorated by the light and refreshing flavour possibilities of Tonic. You see Tonic has the advantage of being not too sweet but still bubbly, which more often than not actually intensifies a spirit’s natural taste.
While Gin may be the most famous option, cognac, tequila, whiskey, liqueurs, and amaros can easily stand in place of their Juniper-based cousin. So if you do find yourself in a world where gin distillery-seeking meteors do hit the earth, it really won’t be the end of the world.
