Created for Perle Skirvin Mesta, the US ambassador to Luxembourg, the Black Russian was devised by bartender Gustave Tops at the Metropolitan Hotel in Brussels in 1949. A simple mix of Vodka and Coffee Liqueur, this classic is deep and rich, while also being the older brother of the White Russian.
