BOTTLES FROM SOLD OUT PLANTATION RUM EXTREME SERIES V COLLECTION GO TO AUCTION

If you’ve been trying to get your hands on the sold out limited-edition, Extreme Series V collection, that Plantation Rum released in April, then it seems you may have one more chance.

The #1 edition of each bottling in the trilogy will be auctioned with Rum Auctioneer, in their July Auction.

All proceeds from the sale (so the Rum Auctioneer will take no commission) will go to Barbados Community College’s (BCC) Fine Arts programme, an initiative that promotes arts and culture in Barbados.

The BCC’s Fine Arts Programmes not only teach students about the importance of the arts for their own development, they teach them how to teach others. The diverse programmes ensure that students receive a thorough grounding in practical, technical and theoretical aspects of training in the arts. They develop skills and capabilities that prepare them for a wide range of cultural, educational, performance and design professions.

Each of the bottlings feature unique artwork by Barbadian artist, Alex Mars whose paintings of landscapes offer the viewer an opportunity to travel to ideal beaches, charming buildings and quaint streets, all evocative of the perfect Caribbean landscape.

Barbados 1986 (286 bottles, 55.1% ABV)

Distilled in a Gregg pot, a direct flame still from the19th century, the liquid has spent 34 years in bourbon barrels before final maturation in Ferrand Cognac casks for a year. The resulting rum is powerful and intense on the nose, rich in tropical fruit aromas with touches of anise and peach. Black olive, ginger and cardamom open on the palate before a long finish of tea, papaya and mint.

Barbados 2000 (929 bottles, 47.8% ABV)

Using a Vulcan chamber still, Gregg pot still and column still, Barbados 2000 has spent 19 years in bourbon barrels and two years in Ferrand Cognac casks. Oolong tea, vanilla and cooked pears that flow into honeyed aromas on the nose, whilst the palate is fruit-forward with guava and touches of grapefruit. A long finish with spicy cloves and soft banana evolves into tart lemon and earthy woodland undergrowth.

Barbados 2007 (2,857, 58% ABV)

The youngest and spiciest of the trio is made using a Gregg pot still and column still, prior to spending 12 years in bourbon barrels and two years in Ferrand Cognac casks.Rich aromas of nutmeg, coffee and honeysuckle are met with rounded roasted coconut and touches of white chocolate and tobacco on the palate.The finish is dry and delicately spicy, with heady notes of chocolate.

HENNESSY AND NBA LAUNCH FLOATING BASKETBALL COURT ON RIVER THAMES

Hennessy and the NBA have unveiled the UK’s first floating basketball court on the Thames in London, in celebration of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Season and the 2022 Finals. The new court, which is travelling along the river from Woolwich to The Houses of Parliament, will kick off a three-day celebration of basketball in the capital.

Upon its docking at Butler’s Wharf, the court will play host to an opening ceremony featuring rap powerhouse AJ Tracey, honouring the long-standing connection between basketball and hip hop, and the sport’s influence on UK culture. The West London-born rapper will take to the court for an exclusive live performance at 7.30pm BST, broadcast to fans worldwide.

Speaking on his involvement in the event, AJ Tracey says: “It’s incredible getting NBA fans, like myself, to come together and celebrate the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Season this year. Moments like this really put London’s love of the game on the map, and with the ongoing support from Hennessy, I’m excited to see the impact it has on basketball in the UK and the communities it’s giving back to.”

On Friday, June 10th, the court will play host to a star-studded tournament, “London’s Got Game”, bringing together some of the capital’s biggest names and vital communities in street culture. Fans can follow the action online, which will be hosted by British professional basketball player, Ovie Soko.

On Saturday, June 11th, the court opens to the public, as Hennessy invites the city’s basketball fans ages 18+ to celebrate the NBA and play on the floating court at a free-to-attend event. Attendees will have the chance to take part in free-throw challenges and learn trick shots from the pros, whilst enjoying one complimentary Hennessy cocktail plus street food and live DJs.

The activity, which celebrates London’s love of basketball, continues a long-term, global commitment from Hennessy to invest in the sport. Following court makeovers in Montreal, Johannesburg, Barbados, and Hong Kong, the brand will be renovating one community court in the UK and working with a local British artist to reimagine what it looks like.
