MOËT HENNESSY BREAKS GROUND ON ROBERT-JEAN DE VOGÜÉ RESEARCH CENTER

October 20,2021

French wine and spirits brand, Moët Hennessy, has stated work on its new Robert-Jean de Vogüé Research Center dedicated to advancing knowledge and evolving practices, which reflect the brands commitment to not only to its  terroir but also to the entire Champagne category.

Climate change and biodiversity loss for more environmentally friendly products have highlighted the limits of the current viticultural model and reinforced the need to evolve.

Representing an investment of 20 million euros, the Research centre has been designed to understand and anticipate the major challenges of the decades ahead.

“Closely aligned with the Living Soils, Living Together program we launched last year, our new state-of-the-art research infrastructure will support all Moët Hennessy Houses as they continue to transform their businesses through sustainability,” said Philippe Schaus, CEO of Moët Hennessy.

“Named in honor of Robert-Jean de Vogüé, one of the Group’s historic leaders who worked tirelessly for the common good in Champagne and beyond, the Research Center will be a hub for sharing knowledge both between the Houses and with public sector researchers and will also embrace collaboration with other external structures.”

The Center will cover four major research areas:

In 2020, Moët Hennessy formally committed to sustainable viticulture with “Living Soils” which aims to unite its communities across the world and develop a global social responsibility program. The new Center, with its focus on addressing environmental and industry challenges, will allow Moët Hennessy to continue making important contributions to sustainable winemaking practices.

PLYMOUTH GIN CREATES ECO-FRIENDLY BOTTLE

October 14,2021

UK distillers Plymouth Gin has unveiled a more sustainable bottle design that will span all expressions in their portfolio: Original Strength, Navy Strength, Sloe Gin, and Fruit Cup.

Set to roll out globally this month, the updated design includes ‘significant improvements’ include the introduction of paper labels and swapping the PVC closure for recyclable PET. The eco-friendly bottle removes all single-use plastic and reduces the overall weight of the glass by 15% – saving 60 tonnes of carbon a year.

The monk on the bottom of the bottle that was applied by a plastic label is now embossed into the glass.

Toni Ingram, global brand director for Plymouth Gin, said: “Consumer research highlighted a love for the iconic ‘sea green’ bottle and an opportunity to enhance our super-premium, craft credentials.

“We’ve also simplified the messaging on the bottle to communicate the most important messages that resonate with our consumers, such as the fact Plymouth Gin is still hand-crafted and batch-distilled, using 100% Dartmoor water.

“The new bottle design is just one of many new initiatives Plymouth Gin will unveil this year in its journey to ensuring sustainability is front and centre.

“Plymouth Gin has already made great strides in this area with the distillery using 100% renewable electricity and ensuring our gin botanicals are recycled via an anaerobic digestion power plant to turn waste into energy.”

LVMH OPENS POP-UP HOTEL EMINENTE TO BRING CUBA TO PARIS

October 2,2021

LVMH-owned rum brand Eminente has opened a pop-up hotel to offer consumers a Cuban experience. Designed for one-night stays, the new Cuban rum brand has opened Hotel Eminente within the existing Monte Cristo Hotel at 20 Rue Pascal, Paris.

Right from the enterence, which brings together the smells of a Cuban market, the scent of sugarcane and notes of Eminente rum, the experience is intended to offer  consumers the “rich heritage” of the Caribbean island through a sensory journey.

The hotel features a restaurant that has been converted into a “paladar” (family eatery), a bar, and 20 Cuban-themed guestrooms. The hotel is open until December 12, 2021.

Monte Cristo Hotel’s head bartender, Adrian Nino, is at the helm of the Eminente bar and has created a bespoke cocktail menu for the duration of the pop-up. His recipes feature raw ingredients from Cuba, including tropical fruits, vegetables, spices, and coffee. The restaurant offers “traditional Cuban cuisine with a contemporary twist.”

“This temporary flagship address dedicated to the five senses embodies a return to the roots of Eminente,” explained Camille de Dominicis, co-founder of Eminente. “With this small hotel lost in the middle of the jungle, we wanted to bring a wild Cuba into the heart of Paris. Hotel Eminente is an opportunity to give people an experience far from the typical Cuban stereotypes and honour these great wild and green spaces, with incredible biodiversity. It is also a chance to discover the Cuban way of life.”

Eminente partnered with sustainable design label Clandestina to create a limited edition Resolver bag from recycled materials, which can be used to carry a bottle of Eminente and two tasting glasses. All proceeds from the sale of the bags at the hotel will be donated to financing and sending medical equipment to Cuba.

French visitors can book via hoteleminente.com while international customers should book directly with Hotel Monte Cristo.
