TEQUILA DON JULIO HAS RELEASED THE LUXURY ALMA MIEL

Mexican Tequila brand Don Julio has released a new expression, Alma Miel, inspired by the agave honey that comes from the heart of the 100% Blue Weber Agave.

Continuing the founder Don Julio González’s mantra to uphold an unparalleled devotion to craft and product, the expression is a unique blend of Blanco tequila distilled with oven-roasted agave honey and Añejo tequila that has been aged for at least 14 months and finished in Crémant du Limoux wine casks from the Limoux region of France. 


Luxuriously smooth, with honeyed aromas, the liquid benefits from the addition of oven-roasted agave honey during the distillation of the Blanco tequila.

“Our love for the craft is what keeps Tequila Don Julio at the forefront of luxury tequila and a force when it comes to sharing some of the most exceptional expressions with the world,” says Christina Choi, Senior Vice President of Tequila at Diageo North America.

“With the launch of Tequila Don Julio Alma Miel, we hope to inspire tequila lovers who are exploring new innovations as we pay tribute to the spirit of Mexico through the agave plant.”

The invreased roasted agave notes in Alma Miel are combined with notes of agave honey, spiced orchard fruit, creamy caramel, and rich roasted agave.

To celebrate the launch, Don Julio has joined with Mexican singer-songwriter, Christian Nodal to explain how he lives how he lives Por Amor in the brand’s new creative film launching in early February. Additionally, the singer will help curate a national dinner series that blends Tequila Don Julio Alma Miel with a fusion of Mexican rhythms and sounds, and delicious food that will tantalize the taste buds, to create sensorial and meaningful experiences.

“As a musician, I am always looking for new and creative ways to connect and inspire people through Mexican culture,” says Nodal.

EL DORADO LAUNCHES ITS FIRST HIGH ESTER RUM EXPRESSION

Guyanan Rum brand El Dorado is introducing a new high ester blend Rum, ‘La Bonne Intention (LBI) / Diamond High Ester (DHE)’.

Set to be the first of nine, this new expression celebrates the depth and versatility of Demerara rum-making and offer enthusiasts an opportunity to explore the vast spectrum of flavours from Demerara Distillers Limited’s 14 operating stills.


Both rums (LBI and DHE) were distilled back in 2012 and aged in ex-bourbon casks before being blended together and bottled.

Released at cask strength, this blend of rum has never-before been released to the public, high-ester rums were previously used to add flavours to other rums as a minor component.

La Bonne Intention (LBI) comes from the multi-functional French Savalle Still. This four-column metal still was inherited back in the 18th century, on the West Coast of Demerara. The expression is a medium-bodied rum with a distinct honeyed profile and was first produced on the now-closed La Bonne Intention Estates on the East Coast of Demerara.

The Diamond High Ester (DHE) marque is produced by one small John Dore Double Retort Pot Still, that dates back to 1950 and is one of its kind at the Diamond Distillery in Demerara, Guyana. This high ester experiences a lengthy production process, with fermentation taking place over several months, and distillation at both a very slow rate and a very high reflux. The result is a marque with ester levels in excess of 1500g/hL.

The rum provides aromas of figs and star-fruit with the infusion of spices such as cinnamon, clove and vanilla that are balanced by mellow aromas of toffee and honey with subtle undertones of banana.

On the palate, a concise introduction to orange peel is followed by clove, dark chocolate, and hints of burnt caramel which will transition to a softer honeyed profile before finishing with a spicy leather aroma.

Bottled in recycled glass, the expression is the first venture from the brand into the rapidly growing American Single Malt category.


Distilled with a mash bill of 100% malted barley and aged in charred new American white oak barrels, Bulleit American Single Malt delivers notes of sweet vanilla and toasted oak on the nose.

THE GLENLIVET RELEASES NEW FUSION CASK EXPRESSION

Scotch Whiskey distillery, The Glenlivet, is set to break boundaries with a new range that uses fused dismantled casks from other spirits to finish its liquids.

The first release in the series, The Glenlivet Rum and Bourbon Fusion Cask, finishes the iconic single malt Scotch whisky in bespoke casks that are uniquely crafted by fusing dismantled rum and bourbon barrels.


Seen as a category-first innovation, Glenlivet hopes the Fusion Cask Selection will challenge conventions and set new standards of excellence within the single malt category.

To create the fusion, hand-selected barrels are dismantled and reassembled into one bespoke cask by expert coopers, creating a harmonious fusion of luscious fruit and caramel-toffee notes.

“This category-first innovation continues our commitment and 200-year legacy of pushing boundaries in whisky,” said Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet Cask Expert.

Offering aromas of orange, vanilla custard, caramel, coconut and zest of lemon, this first expression of the range has notes of juicy apricot and peach, fresh apples, toffee-covered bananas and subtle cinnamon spice on the palate, and a sweet and smooth finish with enduring notes of orange.

THE MACALLAN CONTINUE TELLING PIONEER TALES WITH NEW RELEASE

Scottish Whisky distillers The Macallan has unveiled Tales of The Macallan Volume II, the second edition in a remarkable series of rare single malt Scotch whiskies, which tells the story of The Macallan pioneers and their whisky-making legacy.

Paying homage to The Macallan founder Alexander Reid, every aspect of the release is a fitting tribute to Alexander’s standards of excellence in craftsmanship. A creative collaboration of the greatest craftspeople is reflected in each detail of the collection.


Long-standing partner, master French crystal maker Lalique fashioned the flawless crystal decanter to house the whisky, etched with Andrew Davidson’s captivating illustrations depicting Alexander Reid as a teacher, farmer and distiller.

Traditional London-based bookbinders, Shepherds, Sangorski & Sutcliffe and Zaehnsdorf, which specializes in fine binding, restoration and conservation of books and manuscripts, created the unique, hand-crafted Tales of The Macallan Volume II book, which demanded extraordinary technical expertise to conceal the decanter within its 800 pages.

Artisan printer Imprimerie du Marais in Paris, which creates luxury pieces using specially developed paper, ink and printing processes, expertly printed each individual page.

And, of course, the liquid, which was crafted by The Macallan Lead Whisky Maker, Euan Kennedy, his exemplary 1949 vintage whisky, bottled in 2022, was selected at the apex of its maturation for its release in honour of our founder, Alexander Reid, in our 200th anniversary year.

With rich forest fruits and sweet aromatic woodsmoke on the nose, the release also incorporates black cherries, plum jam, dark chocolate orange and custard pastry on the palette, while the finish is long & complex, with a sweet lingering smokiness.

“Tales of The Macallan Volume II is a tribute to our founder Alexander Reid, whose commitment to quality and craftsmanship established the pursuit of uncompromised excellence that has continued to guide successive generations of The Macallan’s whisky makers, like me, to this day,” explained Kennedy.

“Displaying beautiful tones of bronzed oak, and subtle red hues that reflect the original meaning of Alexander Reid’s surname in Scots – The Red One – this rare and unique single malt whisky possesses an incredible complexity achieved through age and patient maturation.

“Enjoying a lingering smokiness redolent of whiskies of Alexander’s time, it is a fitting tribute to his living legacy as we celebrate our 200thanniversary year,” Kennedy continued.

Alexander, fascinated with the alchemy of distillation that transformed barley into whisky, established the Distillery on Easter Elchies Estate, Speyside, Scotland, in 1824.
