Irish Whiskey distillery, Teeling, has unveiled one of its oldest single malts to be solely matured in a rum cask. This rare single cask expression is available to be purchased via the brand’s online gift shop or hand filled directly from the cask at the Dublin distillery.
Bottled at 50.3% ABV, the expression was distilled in 1988 and has been maturing for 32 years in ex-rum casks.
Limited to 750 bottles, the expression is available from Teeling’s Ireland-based Distillery, Celtic Whiskey Shop and selected Irish retailers. The variant will roll out to a number of Asian and European markets in the next few months.
“We are extremely proud to be able to release some of the oldest ever bottlings of Irish single malt with our Vintage Reserve collection,” said Teeling co-founder Jack Teeling.
“There is nothing else like these Irish single malts on the market and they represent a rare piece of Irish whiskey history in each bottle.”
On the nose, the whiskey offers earthy notes, with dried fruits, toffee. and burnt sugar. The palate delivers an explosion of fruit flavours, which is followed by a molasses sweetness. The finish is dry with a distinct wood influence.
