Smirnoff has entered the hard seltzer race in the UK with two flavours as part of their initial launch.

Offering Smirnoff Seltzer Raspberry and Rhubarb, as well as Smirnoff Seltzer Orange and Grapefruit, the brand is trying to replicate the success of the hard seltzer trend in the US.

The hard seltzers are a mix of Smirnoff No.21 Premium Vodka, sparkling water and natural fruit flavours and will come in 250ml cans with an ABV of 4.7%.

Florida-based Rum brand, Papa’s Pilar has released the first of its Legacy Edition rum expressions. Set to be an annual release, the dark rum blend has been created to celebrate Hemingway’s rich and multifaceted legacy.

Finished in both rye whiskey barrels and Amontillado Sherry casks, the liquid has been crafted to harness Hemingway’s spirit of adventure and appetite for greatness.

Bottled at 43% ABV, the release is a blend of dark rum of nine different, hand-selected rums from five sources – the Dominican Republic, Panama, Venezuela, Barbados and Florida – with ages up to 24 years old.

Created through Papa’s Pilar’s proprietary solera system, which sees the rum spending time in Bourbon barrels, Port wine casks and Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks, before being finished in rye whiskey barrels and Amontillado Sherry casks.

With an aroma of layered spice, chocolate, coffee and subtle hints of burnt sugar and vanilla, the rum has a full-bodied mouthfeel that starts with sweet Vanilla and dark chocolate, before finishing with touches of semi-dry spicy and oak.

For the Legacy Edition, the Papa’s Pilar’s iconic rum bottle, which is modelled after a World War II canteen, has been reimagined as a true collector’s item with an authentic, pure leather retrofitted canteen wrap, embossed with the Papa’s Pilar stamp.

Global Scotch Whiskey brand Johnnie Walker is releasing the fourth instalment in its limited-edition Ghost and Rare series with the Speyside “ghost” distillery of Pittyvaich.

The series has been designed to explore the distinct character of exceptional and very rare whiskies from Scotland’s most short-lived distilleries.

“It may only have thrived for a short period, but the whisky laid down by this distillery is something unmistakable,” said Jim Beveridge, Johnnie Walker Master Blender, as the brand announced the release of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich.

Pittyvaich, which opened in 1974 closed in 1993 after only 18 years of life, left a distinct and growing legacy and is now considered as a hidden gem whispered about the world over for its unique Speyside style.

Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge and his team hand-selected two other “ghost” whiskies from the distilleries of Port Dundas and Carsebridge. He combined these with exceptionally rare Scotch from a quartet of Speyside distilleries including Mannochmore, Auchroisk, Cragganmore and Strathmill as well as the Highland whisky of Royal Lochnagar – crafting something exceptional.

Jim Beveridge continued, saying “We have waited patiently for that perfect moment when we turn our thoughts to this fleetingly rare gem of the whisky world. Its distinct autumnal character has always intrigued us and fired our imagination to create something really special that would pay tribute to the whisky makers of this Speyside distillery.”

When tasted, sweet, fruit notes of fresh apple gather with the autumnal flavours of Pittyvaich, beautifully balanced with the delicate subtle sweetness of honeycomb and softwood from the “ghost” whiskies of Port Dundas and Carsebridge. Other very rare whiskies bring aromas of dark fruit and berries before revealing gentle butterscotch, stewing orchard fruits and a dash of cinnamon.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich follows the release of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Glenury Royal (2019), Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen (2018) and Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Brora (2017). US Vodka brand Harridan Vodka which normally takes its cues from the occult and witchy, is celebrating Halloween with the release of its “Paranormal Reserve.”

Released today, the Reserve includes 60 limited edition bottles, rested for seven days in three of America’s most haunted houses: the Villisca Axe Murder House, Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, and Farm on Round Top Road, which inspired the movie The Conjuring.

Each has a harrowing story.

Each bottle is filled with the award-winning 88 proof spirit. Packaged in an engraved wooden box, each bottle comes with a hand-numbered leather tag indicating in which house it rested. Additional accessories include gloves for safe handling, information on the history of the house, its paranormal activity, and details on where the bottle rested.

“For our first Halloween since launching Harridan, we created something first of its kind for our fellow paranormal and occult enthusiasts,” says Bridgette Taylor, Founder and CEO of Harridan. “As a brand inspired by the witches – and those mistaken for them – of the past, it felt natural to create the ultimate spirit for the holiday that celebrates them.”

Californian Vodka brand Deanbury has launched with 100 cases of its locally produced, super-premium vodka.

Founded in Los Angeles, the brand offers limited runs that are announced through its social media platforms, the brand is seeking to shake up the Vodka category with a unique, millennial-focused experience.

“We’re vodka superfans and were on the lookout for something super premium but crafted locally here in California. It didn’t exist so decided to distil our own in small batches” the brand said.

Made with several white-glove touchpoints, the Vodka has been distilled twenty times during the California summer, crafted exclusively with American grain and filtered through carbon for a “distinct smoothness that you can enjoy on the rocks or in a classic cocktail”.

The iconic orange wrapped font design of the bottle was conceived by graphic designer Christian Bjurinder and has been crafted to stand tall on bar carts. Each bottle is hand-labelled and sealed.

Canadian Whisky distillers Canadian Club are releasing a new canned RTD this month, C.C. Soda & Lime.

Set to be released first in Australia, the expression is lower in sugar and designed as a deliciously flavourful alternative for those seeking out new and lighter drink options.

The RTD will combine the smooth taste of the iconic Canadian Club with hints of lime, all topped with soda. The combination is designed to result in a perfect balance of natural sweetness and a refreshing taste.

With just 31 calories per 100mL, C.C. Soda & Lime uses all-natural ingredients and contains 50 per cent fewer calories than popular cola and dry RTDs, making it an easier drinking experience and an exciting alternative to beer
