Australian Vermouth brand Regal Rogue has looked beyond vermouth to announce their first ever limited edition, Bold Aged Amaro.
Looking to turn the traditional approach, flavours and style of an amaro upside down, the brand sought the help of fellow Australian brands and visionaries to blend a liquid of new-world depths.
Regal Rogue founder Mark Ward and the brand’s vintner Justin Jarrett of See Saw Organic Wines joined forces with Whiskey distiller Starward, Jason Crawley of Crawley’s Syrups and sustainability-focused bartender Evan Stroeve.
“After 11 years of Regal Rogue, this is a dream team for our first-ever limited edition and a chance to change the perception of European Amaro,” explained Ward.
“Working with the incredible team at Starward, my old buddy Jason Crawley and champion bartender Evan Stroeve is the foundation of where we will take our limited editions,” he continued. “Stay tuned for what Starward will do with the barrels after us.”
Driven by Australian ingredients and sustainability, the expression blends Regal Rogue Bold Red with more Indigenous extracts and specially hand-crafted Crawley’s Syrups. The Amaro was then aged for six months in French oak red wine barrels (previously used to mature Starward whisky for three years).
The result is an Amaro that is fresh and lively but with a depth that can be seen through its gorgeous mahogany colour. The residual whisky and fiery ginger syrup give the expression an aromatic spice depth with lovely heat and zing.
Stroeve then created a drink, the Bold Manhattan, for the brand that combines one part Bold Aged Amaro, one part Starward NOVA whisky, and three dashes of Regal Rogue Bold Red extracts.
“This is also a chance to toast every bar, bartender and consumer for the last 11 years with a Bold Manhattan. So, thank you,” adds Ward.
