UK distillery Penrhos Spirits has entered the rum category with the release of a new spiced variant flavoured honey from the Penrhos Farm apiaries in Herefordshire.
Bottled at 37.5% ABV, the rum was created to pay tribute to the bees on the farm, the expression is flavoured with orange peel, lemon peel, allspice, cinnamon, clove, black peppercorns and nutmeg.
Available in April, the expression is the first non-gin-based spirit released by the brand, the new rum joins London Dry, Apple & Elderflower Gin and alcohol-free Penrhos Zero in its portfolio.
As part of the launch, Penrhos Spirits has partnered with Beevive, which offers portable bee revival kits. The collaboration saw the creation of a bundle including 50ml of Honey Spiced Rum and ginger beer,
“Last year, we witnessed a huge increase in popularity in the UK for rum, in part driven by all the home bars springing up,” said Richard Williams, farmer and co-founder of Penrhos Spirits.
“We’d been discussing launching a rum for a while, and there felt like no better time to introduce our Honey Spiced Rum to the collection, hot off the back of our successful non-alcoholic launch in 2020. We’re excited to be entering another spirits category, and at the same time, championing the bees who are so important to our livelihood and time on the farm.”
Penrhos Honey Spiced Rum was created to meet the growing demand for golden rum, which the brand said has been tipped to increase 33% in 2021.
