PATRÓN CREATE BOTTLE TO SAVE AMAZON RAINFOREST

Patrón Tequila has teamed up with London private members’ club Annabel’s to create a limited edition bottle to raise money for the Amazon rainforest. The move is part of the Annabel’s for the Amazon initiative, which has committed to planting a million trees by March 2023.

Inspired by the members’ club and the Brazilian rainforest, the bottle and box use the club’s Jungle Bar for its design and features hand-drawn illustrations that cover the mirror-panelled walls of the room. The packaging is fully recyclable.


On September 30, 2021, the venue will host celebrities, members and environmentalists for the inaugural Annabel’s for The Amazon event, which aims to help save the rainforest.

Hosted by The Caring Family Foundation in collaboration with One Tree Planted. the organisations hope the event will help to plant one million trees by March 2023, equivalent to approximately 600 hectares of forest restored and equal to 4.2 Hyde Parks.

The bottle is available exclusively to buy from Selfridges’ website and storesProceeds from the sale of the limited edition bottle will be donated to the reforestation of the Brazilian rainforest with each bottle sold will plant 22 trees.

In addition, three Patrón Amazon cocktails will be available at Annabel’s during September, with the partnership planting an extra 10 trees for each drink sold.

CHICKEN COCK DEBUTS EXCLUSIVE WHISKEY FOR NEW ORLEANS BOURBON FESTIVAL

Kentucky Whiskey brand Chicken Cock has collaborated with the New Orleans Bourbon Festival to create a one-of-a-kind Single Barrel Double Oak Kentucky Whiskey.

“Not only is New Orleans one of the cornerstones for America’s rich cocktail and whiskey history,” explained Will Woodington, Chicken Cock Whiskey Brand Ambassador, “but we can also trace our brand’s history to New Orleans as far back as the late 1830s.


“This was a time when James A. Miller was shipping barrels of his coveted whiskey down to the ‘Big Easy’, long before he opened the Chicken Cock Distillery in 1856.

“To commemorate the relationship between our brand and the city of New Orleans that stems back nearly 200 years,” Woodington continued, “we wanted to have a great presence at this fantastic event and release a rare and unique offering to its attendees.

Woodington, Gregg Snyder, Chicken Cock Whiskey’s Master Distiller, and event organizers all gathered in Bardstown to hand-pick, in person, the barrel of the brand’s Double Oak 9-Year Kentucky Whiskey.

The whiskey was then aged nine years, the first seven in used barrels and the final two in new American White Oak with a level four char.

The result is a 119.6-proof whiskey that has been bottled in a collaboratively designed, limited edition prohibition-era style bottle, which Woodington points out, is “one of the finest expressions of Chicken Cock Whiskey that I’ve ever tasted!”

The limited edition expression will be exclusively available at the New Orleans Bourbon Festival and at selected retailers in the area.

THE LOST EXPLORER EXPANDS WITH RELEASE OF ITS FIRST TEQUILA

Mexican Mezcal brand The Lost Explorer has expanded its range and Agave focus with the release of its first Tequila.

Created by maestro tequilero Enrique de Colsa (formerly head distiller of Diageo’s Don Julio), the Tequila is produced in small batches at its distillery in the lowland valleys of Amatitán, Jalisco.


“In The Lost Explorer, I found people with my values and principles, with my way of doing things, and today it’s become a reality… being together to launch a new tequila with new flavours, new aromas, and a completely new level of excellence,” said De Colsa.

The Lost Explorer’s inaugural line of tequilas works with local farmers to ensure a high calibre of agave plantings and regenerative harvesting practices.

The first launch will be a blanco tequila which will be available in the US, Mexico, UK and Europe from April onwards.

DEWAR'S LAUNCHES MIZUNARA OAK FINISHED 21 YEAR OLD WHISKY

Scotch Whiskey Blenders Dewar’s has introduced the newest iteration from its award-winning Double Double series, Double Double 21-Year-Old Mizunara Oak Cask Finish.

Finished in Japanese Mizunara Oak casks, the expression brings together the distilling traditions of Japan and Scotland, creating a rare blend that captures the essence of the two cultures.


“The journey of creating this expression has been an exploration of flavours and craftsmanship, said Stephanie Macleod, Master Blender for Dewar’s. “Together, my team and I introduced a distinctive twist to our award-winning DEWAR’s Double Double 21-Year-Old by finishing it in Japanese Mizunara Oak casks, creating a new and exciting whisky.

Unlike American oak, Mizunara Oak requires more than 200 years to reach maturity and does not grow straight, posing a unique challenge in the process of forming it into casks. The resulting liquid, however, has an intriguing balance of succulence, purity, and smoothness.

“This latest iteration in the Double Double Series is a testament to our commitment to delivering unparalleled experiences to our connoisseurs,” Macleod continued.

Bottled at 46%, the expression features a balance of tasting notes, with the Oak imparting subtle hints of sandalwood and coconut, contributing to a smooth mouthfeel. The finish leaves behind a sweet, clean taste with a touch of creamy vanilla.

THE MACALLAN RELEASES NEW HOME COLLECTION EXPRESSION

Scottish Whisky distillers The Macallan has released the second edition in its limited annual release series Home Edition, which seeks to showcase the natural beauty of the birthplace of the brand.

Inspired by the extraordinary natural beauty of The Macallan Estate, River Spey release celebrates the 1.5-mile stretch of water that flows gently through the Estate and is an enduring source of inspiration.


The expression offers rich hints of raisins, treacle sponge and fruit on the nose, accompanied by velvety notes of sultana, butterscotch and chocolate on the palate before giving way to a medium finish with toasted oak spice.

In collaboration with photo-realist artist Michelle Lucking, River Spey is presented in a unique pack featuring a watercolour painting that exquisitely captures the River Spey in its majestic winter beauty.

Lucking used naturally pigmented pastels to create a suite of six original paintings of the River Spey, bringing the water to life with an intensity and exceptional realism which exquisitely captures the light and movement of the great river.

“Water, for me, is a constant source of inspiration,” explained Lucking. “I wanted to convey the importance not just of the river itself but all its elements, the pebbles, the amazing autumnal colours in the surrounding landscape–from the soft yellows and ambers to the burnt umbers and deep treacle tones–hues that I had seen reflected in the natural colour of the whiskies.

Creating something of beauty takes patience,” Lucking continued. “I like to recreate all that fine detail with natural pigmented pastels. Layering and layering, creating all the different blends of colour, getting finer and finer so you end up with this incredible fine detail, and that’s something you can never rush. A lot like creating whiskies here at The Macallan–it takes time.”
