Japanese blended whisky brand Nikka has announced the release of a refined Taketsuru Pure Malt that showcase the contrast and balance from the brand’s two distilleries: Yoichi and Miyagikyo.
Named after Nikka’s founder Masataka Taketsuru, the first Japanese to mastered whisky-making in Scotland and bring. that expertise back to Japan, the expression has depth and balance through the influence of ex-sherry casks and the presence of malt characteristics that enrich the mouthfeel and smokiness.
“The refined Taketsuru Pure Malt is an exciting evolution of our founder’s namesake blend,” says Emiko Kaji, Nikka Whisky international business development manager. “We have refined the formula and design to represent both sides of Masataka’s personality, being a disciplined craftsman and a person of curiosity and open-mindedness. We hope this expression will be enjoyed by connoisseurs and storytellers seeking high-quality whiskies with rich stories behind.”
Bottled at 43% ABV, the 2020 release of Nikka Taketsuru blended malt whisky is a smoky, full-bodied whisky with notes of rich oak spice, aromatic peat and sweet flowers throughout the palate.
