J.J. Corry “The Story” was created for the Irish Whiskey online fan group ‘Stories and Sips’ and it’s 6500 members in America. Made in limited-release of 200 x 750ml and 400 x 50ml bottles the expression was made in November for pre-order and was sold out within 4 hours.

To overcome the challenge of Covid to the traditional ways of promoting Whiskey, members of Stories & Sips were able to follow the creation and production of J.J. Corry “The Story” from cask to glass, through video and live stream updates over a 4-month period.


After TTB approval and importation, bottles were shipped to members across the USA. This remarkable Whiskey Journey culminated in a live stream launch and member group tasting via Facebook and YouTube, hosted by Barry Chandler, curator of Stories & Sips.

Featuring an enhanced premium liquid that has been aged for seven years, the new Black expression boasts enticing notes of caramel, vanilla, and rich oak, delivering a smooth and gratifying Bourbon experience.


Crafted under the guidance of seventh and eighth-generation Master Distillers Fred and Freddie Noe, Jim Beam Black continues the 229-year family tradition of distilling exceptional bourbon that is both accessible and remarkable.

FEW SPIRITS RELEASES SMASHING PUMPKINS BOURBON

Illinois craft distillery Few Spirits has collaborated with Madame Zuzu’s Emporium, a boutique tea shop run by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and his wife, to release Few Smashing Pumpkins Bourbon.

Using Few’s four-year-old straight Bourbon as its base, the expression has been proofed to 46.5% ABV and cut using the tea shop’s Midnight Rose Black Tea.


“Whether you’re making music, painting, blending tea, or distilling spirits, you’re making art,” said master distiller Paul Hletko. “As a Chicagoan, I felt a personal responsibility to match the raw, primal energy of the Pumpkins. Songs like ‘I Am One’ – the opening track of the band’s first album, Gish – provided a ton of inspiration.”

Wanting to capture the band’s “driving, yet symphonic quality”, the expression reveals an aroma of ripe honeydew, vanilla, and rose water, with sandalwood, caramel, and black tea on the palate.

The label for the expression has been created by Chicago visual artist Katelan Foisy, who drew inspiration from elements of vintage tea tins and labels, merging them with Art Deco and Victorian design. Foisy has previously worked with both Madame Zuzu’s and the Smashing Pumpkins and included a lyric to the band’s song ‘Tonight, Tonight’ on the back label.

The Smashing Pumpkins expression will be available through the distillery’s website and in select markets this summer to coincide with the band’s North American tour.

MACKMYRA CELEBRATES 25 YEARS WITH THE RELEASE OF ITS 1999 BRUKET

Swedish distillery Mackmyra will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an exclusive series of four special-edition anniversary releases. Only 1999 bottles of each edition will be made available.

Starting with “Bruket”, a cask-aged bloodgrape gin that celebrates the place where it all began, the series will continue later in the fall with the addition of three whiskies expressions.


Bruket is the only cask-aged gin in the series and displays the distillery’s innovative nature, as it is aged in bourbon and American oak barrels and saturated with bloodgrape liqueur. Its distinct grapefruit character imparts a lively taste with a soft bitterness.

“The fact that a cask-matured gin is the first in the anniversary series feels just right, explained Lii Johnson, Mackmyra’s Master Blender. “Mackmyra’s history began at Bruket, and it was also at Bruket that we started making gin in 2017.

“The gin, aged here in barrels saturated with a bloodgrape liqueur, stands out among our previous saturations in gin barrels,” Johnson continued. “It has a little more bitterness and a little more bitter notes that complement our gin perfectly. Equally good to drink neat or as a base in a G&T.”

The aroma is characterized mainly by sweet citrus with ripe blood grapefruit and blood orange. There are also floral notes of elderberry. With time in the glass, the gin emerges more clearly with its notes of juniper and mild coriander.

It is a lively flavour with a distinct juniper character, sweet clementines, and mango. The many citrus notes, with blood grapefruit being the most prominent, contribute to a soft bitterness and slightly bitter mouthfeel.

The finish is unusually long. Bitterness and acidity build the aftertaste with notes of juniper, lingonberry and blood grapefruit. The grapefruit stays in the mouth for a long time, and over time, it transitions from bitterness to sweetness.
