Tequila brand Hornitos has announced the launch of a new line of tequila-based ready-to-drink beverages combining real Plata Tequila with refreshing seltzer

Designed to providing tequila and hard seltzer fans with simple convenience without compromise, the drinks will contain no artificial sweeteners and will be available in two flavours, Lime and Mango. Each variant contains less than 115 calories will be available in 12 oz cans, with an ABV of 5% ABV

RACEHORSE INSPIRED BOURBON LAUNCHES IN UK

Sometimes it takes a racehorse, a sea voyage and a reduction in tariffs to create the perfect Bourbon Whiskey.

Never Say Die, the world-first Bourbon inspired by the legendary tale of the namesake racehorse, is launching its flagship product today for the UK market.

The Barrel Strength Bourbon has been distilled and matured in Kentucky before embarking on a six-week trip across the Atlantic, where it was then matured in barrels in Derbyshire to give it a unique, British finish.

Exposure to the ocean air during Never Say Die’s six-week maritime voyage combined with the contrasting climates between Kentucky and the UK results in a unique flavour profile with lively spice and citrus notes that melt into vanilla, leather and caramel, concluding with a lasting smooth finish.

The brainchild of world-class Bourbon distillers Pat Heist and Shane Baker, Never Say Die was inspired by the infamous racehorse of the same name, which following a traumatic birth was revived with a shot of whiskey. Three years later and at odds of 33-1, Never Say Die became the first American-born horse in 70 years to win the Epsom Derby in front of 250k spectators, which included Queen Elizabeth II and Sir Winston Churchill.

With production beginning in 2017, its long-awaited launch was only made possible when crippling 25% whiskey tariffs on US imports were reversed as a result of the campaigning efforts of the team and the Bourbon Alliance which was co-founded by Never Say Die director Martha Dalton.

“The process of bringing Kentucky Straight Bourbon in original barrels across the ocean to further mature in England has never been done before,” explained Dalton.  “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved, creating a world-class whiskey that is rooted in Kentucky provenance but with an undeniably English character.”

Our custom mash bill has been designed to highlight the essence of the small grains with consistency, using carefully selected local grains. We also use high-quality, mineral-rich limestone-filtered water sourced from the deepest aquifer in Kentucky. We add our Bourbon whiskey to well seasoned, charred American Oak barrels and tuck them away to mature to perfection for up to four years in Kentucky before it embarks on the final leg of its journey across the ocean to the White Peaks Distillery in Derbyshire to finish”.

PLANTATION RUM RELEASE LIMITED-EDITION GUYANA 2007

Global Rum brand Plantation will release the latest limited edition from the ‘Under the Sea’ Vintage Collection No.2: Guyana 2007. Following Panama, Jamaica and Fiji, Guyana is the fourth edition of the ‘Under the Sea’ collection which celebrates marine animals native to the great terroirs of rum.

This latest double-aged release was selected from the cellars of Demerara Distillers Limited by Andrew Hassell, Managing Director and rum historian at West Indies Rum Distillery. Guyana 2007 is the result of a collaboration with Alexandre Gabriel, Owner and Master Blender of Plantation Rum, and Shaun Caleb, Master Distiller of Demerara Distillers Limited.

Guyana 2007 results from one-week fermentations distilled in three historic stills: the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, the French Savalle four-column metal still and the Enmore Wooden Coffey still. Further depth is added through the double ageing process, a signature of Plantation Rum.

First matured for 13 years in 200-litre ex-bourbon casks in the cellars of Demerara Distillers Limited, the rum then made a long sea voyage to France, where it was further aged for two years in Javrezac, in the Southwest of France, in 350-litre French oak casks.

Rich and intense on the nose, with pastry notes of cocoa, almond and cooked banana, before becoming spicier, with allspice and charred oak. The palate opens with orange, caramel and tobacco, leading to balsamic and almost smokey notes, before ending with a very long, spicy finish with pepper, nutmeg and chocolate.

KINGS COUNTY DISTILLERY ANNOUNCES NEW BLENDED BOURBON

New York craft distillery, Kings County, is releasing a new flagship blended bourbon made from house-distilled straight whiskeys.

Bright, complex and approachable, the new expression will be the brand’s most accessible aged spirit, ideal for both neat sipping or mixing.

Presented in a striking new blue label, one which clearly differentiates this spirit from Kings County’s established bourbon, rye, and single malt whiskeys, the distillery will ensure transparency by listing the exact blend composition on every bottle.

“As we have done with moonshine and bottled-in-bond, making a blended bourbon is a way of asking whiskey drinkers to reconsider an overlooked category of spirit,” said Co-Founder and Distiller Colin Spoelman.

“Blended whiskey is most often associated with crowd-pleasing scotch or Canadian whiskies. We used the all-but-forgotten category of blended bourbon to create the American analogue to these reliable and endlessly versatile spirits.”

By law, blended bourbon must use 51% straight bourbon. Still, the open-ended definition allows the Kings County’s blending team to use the full breadth of our mature inventory to craft a complex and purposeful flavour profile within the lineup. With this added flexibility, Blended Bourbon can become a volume leader in Kings County’s portfolio, joining an existing line of superlative aged whiskeys.

Kings County’s spirits have been widely accepted and appreciated, but with the supply of aged whiskey growing short across the spectrum of American whiskey, Kings County aims to lead the market with a superior all-purpose two-year-old spirit.

“While many distillers are raising prices, we are making our whiskeys more affordable and accessible,” said Spoelman. “We want to be the distiller that meets the moment for our customers and fans.”

With notes of honey, caramel, and rye pepper, this is a flexible whiskey and one that shows what can be achieved through the use of quality organic ingredients, careful distilling, and creative blending. It also presents a spirit suitable for mixing, creating a new audience for the brand.

Kings County Blended Bourbon will be available throughout New York State starting September 14th with a national rollout to follow.

DITA VON TEESE RELEASES SWEET GWENDOLINE FRENCH GIN

“The Queen of Burlesque” Dita Von Teese has teamed up with spirits industry veteran Larry McGearty, who previously led the team that created Sailor Jerry Rum, to launch Sweet Gwendoline French Gin in the U.S.

Inspired by the iconic works of fetish artist and publisher John Willie, the new gin has been sourced in the South of France and is infused with Figue de Solliès, a variety of fig grown in the region, as well as six additional botanicals (juniper, cardamon, coriander, angelica, lime, and sweet orange).

The bottle label centrepiece displays an image of a burlesque dancer and is based on a Willie illustration from the front cover of BIZZARE magazine issue Nº 19.

BARDSTOWN UNVEILS DISCOVERY SERIES #8

Kentucky Bourbon distillery Bardstown has unveiled Discovery Series #8.

Complex and innovative, this latest expression is made from a blend of 12-year-old Kentucky bourbon (66%), a seven-year-old Indiana rye (17%), a six-year-old Indiana rye (6%), and a 12-year-old aged Canadian whisky (11%).

Known for pushing the boundaries of whiskey innovation, the distillery added a custom selection of five oak staves to enhance the blend’s unique flavour.

The 12-year-old Kentucky bourbon is made of a mash bill with 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley. The seven-year-old Indiana rye’s mash hill consists of 45% corn, 51% rye, and 4% malted barley; the six-year-old comprises 95% rye and 5% malted barley. The 12-year-old Canadian whisky hails from Ontario and is made from 100% corn.

The stave’s blend is 45% French oak double toast, 25% spice rack, 20% high vanilla, 5% rioja, and 5% charred barrel.

Bottled at 114.1 proof, Bardstown Discovery Series #8 offers maple, dark chocolate, baked cherry, and toasted oak on the nose. At the same time, the palate presents rye spice with luscious oak undertones that lead to a luxurious, long-lasting finish.
