French Cognac brand Hennessy has unveiled the fourth single batch release in its limited-edition Master Blender’s Selection series.
Created by Hennessy Master Blender Renaud Fillioux de Gironde, the expression is the result of eaux-de-vie singled out and set aside in the Hennessy cellars specifically for the master blender’s creations.
Inspired by a winter walk in the Cantal mountains, the release is said to have a delicate, marked freshness and is the distiller’s second single-batched creation.
Made with 5-year-old eaux-de-vie aged in young French red oak barrels, it presents a nose of fresh apricot, candied orange peel and hints of fruity spices.
“When creating this blend, I was inspired by the contrast of a ‘thermal shock,’” says Renaud Fillioux de Gironde. “Going from feeling one’s smallness in such a wide-open space to being inside, passing from daylight to the darkness of night, from solitude of the forest, being completely exposed to the elements in nature, to an environment of complete comfort and cozy abandon surrounded by friends.”
