Scottish Whisky distiller Eden Mills has added two new peated expressions (#16 & #17) to its popular Hip Flask miniatures range.
The #16, which has been created by ageing our Pale Malt Spirit in an ex-Islay Whisky refill cask, and #17, which has been has been matured in a refill Bourbon Casks, has been released in the lead-up to Burns Night.
“We wanted to create these peated expressions for The Hip Flask series for a long time,” said head distiller Scott Ferguson. “It demonstrates the potential in small-batch whisky when we work with different mash bills, processes, and maturation techniques, as well as different. wood types.”
Available in 20cl bottles, the Hip Flask series is intended as a progressive and pioneering range that fully demonstrate what authentic small-batch distilling can add to the ultimate craft spirits category, single malt whisky.
The #16 has a dry, almost wood-smoke aroma, along with hints of cereal and hay. The level of peat is mild/moderate, with the emphasis on the woodsmoke bonfire-ember character of the liquid.
The #17 has a pronounced, phenolic peaty aroma. With a rich level of peat, this liquid has a robust earthiness along with a dense, peat-smoke flavour. This is then lightened with spicy oak and sweet vanilla character from the bourbon cask.
