“The Queen of Burlesque” Dita Von Teese has teamed up with spirits industry veteran Larry McGearty, who previously led the team that created Sailor Jerry Rum, to launch Sweet Gwendoline French Gin in the U.S.
Inspired by the iconic works of fetish artist and publisher John Willie, the new gin has been sourced in the South of France and is infused with Figue de Solliès, a variety of fig grown in the region, as well as six additional botanicals (juniper, cardamon, coriander, angelica, lime, and sweet orange).
The bottle label centrepiece displays an image of a burlesque dancer and is based on a Willie illustration from the front cover of BIZZARE magazine issue Nº 19.
“I have a passion for the artistry associated within subcultures,” commented McGearty. “Sweet Gwendoline French Gin is a result of the lifelong appreciation I have for the fetish artistry of John Willie. This gin has been 10 years in the making and is now here for your enjoyment.”
Von Teese added, “The world of John Willie’s Sweet Gwendoline is playfully risqué, with distinctive characters who have long fascinated me and continue to inform my style, both on and offstage; John Willie is always with me in artistic spirit. He is one of my greatest inspirations, and now the playfully risque spirit of one of his greatest heroines — Sweet Gwendoline — has been brought to life in our own beautiful spirit.”
Bottled at 40% ABV and with a unique citrus finish, Sweet Gwendoline aims to reimagine gin consumption by not requiring extra mixers to enhance the spirit’s flavours.
The spirit will be available in New York, California, Texas, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, and Wisconsin, as well as online for shipping to 30 states and Washington, DC.
