Angostura, world-renowned for aromatic bitters, has added yet another flavour to its portfolio with the latest innovation- Angostura cocoa bitters.

The new product is made using Trinidad and Tobago’s own Trinitario cocoa well-known globally for its bold characteristics, its depth of flavour and aroma, which command a premium price on the international market.

T&T is designated as a 100 percent fine or flavour cocoa producer, a status it has held for decades.

After years of continuous research and trials, the Angostura team led by Master Blender, Carol Homer-Caesar, created the perfect recipe for this latest product.

“We believe our locally cultivated Trinitario cocoa delivers a far superior flavour profile to other geographic regions. Our hope is that our new, expertly crafted, cocoa bitters inspires people to create their own signature cocktail and food recipes to savour and enjoy with family and friend,” she said.

Scottish Blended Whisky brand Dewar’s has launched a 19-year-old whisky to celebrate the start of the 2021 US Open golf tournament.

To mark the start of the US Open Championship, held from 14-20 June 2021 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California, the brand has released The Champions Edition, a 19-year-old bottling finished in American ex-Bourbon casks.

Brian Cox, vice-president of Dewar’s North America, said: “Designed for golf and whisky aficionados alike, this first-of-its-kind blend is inspired by our exciting partnership with the US Open, as well as our sporting legacy and commitment to supporting ‘champions’ in all endeavours.”

Created by Dewar’s master blender Stephanie Macleod, the expression blends double-aged grain and single malt whiskies. The resulting liquid offers notes of honey, toffee, vanilla and ripe cherries.

It comes in a silver bottle design to reflect the US Open trophy. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the bottle will be given to the USGA Foundation.

As the official blended Scotch whisky of the US Open Championship golf tournament, the brand will release annual limited edition products to mark the US Open until 2023.

Jamaican Rum distillery Appleton Estate has announced the release of a new 15 Year Old Black River Casks rum expression.

The new 43% ABV expression pays homage to the Black River in Jamaica’s Nassau Valley, the company says, the source of the limestone-filtered water used to create all Appleton Estate rum.

With the aromas of toasted almond and hazelnut, the palette of the 15-year-old expression has notes of orange peel, vanilla and hints of medium roasted coffee and molasses.

“The rum that we hand-selected for the 15 Year Old is used to create a rare blend of pot and column-still rums resulting in the rich and full-bodied finish,” says Master Blender Joy Spence, who marks her 40th anniversary this year at the distillery. “There is a delicate spice with a fruity subtle oak ending that reflects the lush and fertile land that the Black River runs through here in the Nassau Valley.”

“We cultivate the ingredients that go into every barrel of our rum,” Spence adds. “From the sugarcane, we grow ourselves, to the limestone spring water we source straight from the Black River, every step is carefully looked after, resulting in a beautiful rum.”

International Bourbon brand Jim Beam has expanded its portfolio with the introduction of an orange-flavoured variant.

Bottled at 37.5% ABV, the expression combines orange liqueur and Kentucky straight Bourbon whiskey.

Combining notes of sweet orange, vanilla and char, the release is the latest addition to Jim Beam’s range of flavoured whiskeys, which includes Peach, Vanilla, Apple, Kentucky Fire, Honey and Red Stag by Jim Beam Black Cherry.

Developed for use in ‘simple summer cocktails’, the brand championing the ‘sessionable’ Jim Beam Orange Highball – one part Jim Beam Orange to three parts soda water – as its signature serve.
