While there is a fair amount of controvacy over Australia Day, one thing we can all get behind and that is some really well executed cocktails. As we head into the long weekend, two of Australia’s best bars are creating drinks with a bit of an Australian spin. So where your into botanicals or just some Aussie puns that never die, make sure you get out of the humidity and into the bar.
If you’re in Sydney today, then its worth getting down to PS40 for their Hops & Pop celebration. With Young Henry’s beer on tap, cocktails with native Australian ingredients on the bar & a sausage sizzle in the laneway, this looks like it could be quite the blow-out.
Most importantly though, all proceeds will go to supporting Aboriginal communities.
Some of the cocktails on offer include –
- Rivermint Smash with Rivermint Vodka, Purple Basil, Lemon & PS Bush Tonic
- Wattle Me This with Tequila, Mezcal, Raspberry Cream, Wattleseed Verjus & Citrus
- Bush Tomato Blood Maria with Gin, Salt Bush, Bush Tomato & Spices
PS40 is located at 2/40 King St, Sydney NSW 2000
If your in Melbourne than Black Pearl’s Attic Bar is the place to be.
They state on the menu that “There’s plenty about this weekend we shouldn’t celebrate, but we think the below are things everyone can be proud of.”
And so we are … if for no other reason than they have pulled out the puns and gone and included ingredient like Koala Crack (which we believe is a eucalyptus amaro).

The Acca-Daquari cocktail from the Attic menu at Black Pearl Fitzroy.
Keep an eye out of classics such as
- Acca-Daiquari with Bundaberg Small Batch Rum, Lime & Local Honey
- #democracysausage with Bunnings Sausage Washed Ketel One Vodka, Cured Tomato & BBQ Spice Mix
- Port Douglas Stinger with Tawny Port, Koala Crack (Eucalypt Amaro), Creme De Menthe & Orange Bitters.
Black Pearl is located at 304 Brunswick St, Fitzroy VIC 3065
