What if there was one cocktail that was relatively easy to make, colourful while tasty and a guaranteed crowd pleaser? Well that would definitely be a cocktail that you’d want to have in your arsenal to pull out whenever your friends arrived unexpectedly for drinks.

Now while everyone has different tastes and preclusions, New York’s famed cocktail bar Employees Only, would like to point out that their Amelia Cocktail has surpassed all others n sales for the last 14 years.

A lush Vodka Blackberry concoction, the Amelia has been setting records at the West Village bar since its debut in 2004. It’s truly a million dollar drink, as it has made the bar far more than that since it’s introduction.

Although Forbes were not able to get the financials on the drink from the beginning they were able to gather its figures for the last 7 years, where they were able to assess that the Amelia has generating over $1.4 million in gross revenue. And from that of course you can estimate that the drink’s lifetime gross revenues might be upwards of $2 million.

So what is it about this particular drink? Well, it could have a lot to do with the colour. The vibrant dark red certainly draws the eye, especially as it’s contrasted with a statement splash of green.

Perhaps it’s the use of elderflowers and blackberries. But don’t be worried this isn’t a sweet drink. It’s a drink that is balanced and fruity but as it doesn’t have any syrup, it’s not cloying or gratingly saccharine.

Or maybe the drink’s feminine name makes it approachable.

Now it’s pointed out that bartenders at Employees Only can turn this drink around in [2:45] minutes from order to placing it in front of the customer.

Now while we don’t expect that you might necessarily be able to do it that fast at home, if you keep a good supply of Blackberry Puree in the fridge at all times, it won’t take you much longer to assemble to drink.

Pureeing Blackberries is simile enough in a food processor, although you will want to strain it in a fine mesh sieve before discarding the solids. Kept in an airtight container in the fridge, it will be good for 2-3 days.

Over the last seven years, Employees Only have sold over one hundred thousand of this cocktail. And when you look at what goes into that, you’ll be relieved that you only have a home bar.

Nearly 4,500 1-litre vodka bottles have been used within the seven-year span, along with around 3,000 750-millilitre bottles of elderflower liqueur.

As for that fresh lemon juice? Over 37,000 fresh lemons have been juiced to date.
