MOËT HENNESSY AND BEYONCÉ KNOWLES-CARTER LAUNCH NEW WHISKY

August 21,2024

Global spirits producer Moët Hennessy, a subsidiary of LVMH, has announced it will join forces with Beyoncé Knowles-Carter to create a new groundbreaking whiskey, SirDavis.

Named in honour of Davis Hogue, Knowles-Carter’s paternal great-grandfather, SirDavis was created by Dr. Bill Lumsden, one of the world’s most awarded and highly regarded Master Distillers.

Knowles-Carter, who is a Japanese whisky enthusiast, felt the creation of her own whiskey was predestined when she found out that her great-grandfather was a farmer and a moonshiner in the American South during Prohibition,

“I’ve always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when drinking quality whisky and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling,” says SirDavis Founder Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.

“When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated. SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy,” Knowles-Carter continued.

Created with an unusual mash bill of 51% rye and 49% malted barley, Lumsden combined the elegant mouthfeel and texture of Japanese and Scotch whiskies, with the robust and deep flavors typical of classic American rye.

“With SirDavis, we looked to challenge the category norms and offer something new in the space,” said Lumsden. “The distinctive grain selection and unusual secondary maturation in sherry casks helped us achieve a signature profile completely unique to SirDavis, one of bold sophistication.”

To validate SirDavis’s quality, the liquid was anonymously submitted to numerous prestigious spirits competitions before launch. SirDavis won Best In Class for American Whiskey from the 2023 SIP Awards, outperforming over 100 other entries.

Awarded to only one brand per category, this award is reserved for premium spirits receiving scores in the pinnacle of their respective categories. It is SIP’s highest acclaim from consumer judges.

“SirDavis is not only a revelatory and exceptional American Whisky, which we are very proud of. It is also a testament of the unwavering dedication to craftsmanship, heritage and innovation shared by LVMH and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter,” said Bernard Arnault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LVMH.

The SirDavis bottle is striking and clean, with ribbed glass that beautifully catches light and highlights the liquid. It also features a black medallion with a regal bronzed horse, emblematic of strength and respect and symbolizing Knowles-Carter’s Texas roots.

In another nod to Knowles-Carter’s Southern heritage, the whisky is finished, blended and bottled in her home state of Texas. Unlike other acquired brands, SirDavis also makes history as Moët Hennessy’s first spirits brand developed entirely internally by Moët Hennessy in the United States. SirDavis is headquartered out of Houston, Texas.

“In partnering with Moët Hennessy, we have crafted a delicious American whisky that respects tradition but also empowers people to experience something new and unique in the category,” explained Knowles-Carter. “You can taste it better than I could ever tell you — welcome, SirDavis.”

SirDavis will be available at retail across the U.S. as well as in select airports (LAX/JFK/SFO) and stores in London, Paris, and Tokyo in September 2024.

ESPOLÒN UNVEILS THE FIRST TEQUILA INFUSED WITH MARIGOLD

October 5,2024

Mexican Tequila brand Espolòn proudly introduces Flor de Oro, a limited-edition Reposado tequila infused with natural extract from the marigold flower, to honour Día de Muertos.

The first tequila of its kind to hit the market and the brand’s first seasonal release, Flor de Oro, showcases Espolòn’s dedication to bold innovation while bringing its Mexican heritage into the modern world.

“For me, Día de Muertos is all about family, tradition, and honouring those no longer with us. It presents an opportunity for me to reflect on memories of celebrations and traditions – rooted in food, aromas, and tequila – that my mother and grandmother taught me,” said Jesús Susunaga Acosta, Maestro Tequilero of Espolòn Tequila.

Flor de Oro means “Golden Flower” referencing the vibrant marigold that adorns traditional ofrendas during the Mexican celebration.

“When creating Flor de Oro, I was inspired by the moment that we placed an altar at Casa San Nicolás dedicated to our late founder, Master Distiller Cirilo Oropeza,” Acosta continued.

“Drawing from the marigold petals and aromas of his favourite foods, we created an infused Reposado tequila that honours Cirilo and thanks him for his years of dedication to tequila-making.”

Aged in new Oak barrels for two months, the expression blends the floral and citrus aromas of marigolds with the fruit-forward, sweet notes of new American Oak. The elegance of the rare natural marigold extract results in an elevated flavour profile for a unique sipping experience perfect for celebratory moments.

To further ignite creative celebration, Espolòn Tequila has partnered with renowned event and floral designer Raúl Àvila, the vision behind the decor and design of the MET Gala, to create a ‘Living Ofrenda’ will celebrate the importance of Día de los Muertos.

A stunning interactive installation at New York City’s Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal, the Living Ofrenda, will be open to the public from 8am to 8pm EST on October 29th and 30th.

“Día de los Muertos is a holiday rich in emotion and symbolism, with the marigold playing a central role. For the Living Ofrenda, I was inspired by the significance of the marigold flower and the holiday – its bright petals guiding spirits, its fragrance evoking memories, and its presence symbolising love and remembrance,” said Raúl Àvila.

Raúl Àvila has also created stunning marigold arrangements inspired by Flor de Oro for those creating ofrendas in celebration of loved ones at home. From October 2nd until October 21st, fans 21+ can enter to win a custom arrangement by visiting http://www.espolontequilasweeps.com/ and entering the keyword FlordeOro.

For the release of Flor de Oro, Espolòn’s iconic rounded bottle features a new creative label that showcases Espolòn’s iconic rooster, Ramón, standing proudly by a Día de los Muertos altar that pays homage to Oropeza.

RUSSELL'S RESERVE LAUNCHES THIRD ANNUAL SINGLE RICKHOUSE BOTTLING

October 4,2024

Global Bourbon brand Russell’s Reserve has launched the third instalment in its Single Rickhouse Collection and is the highest proof offering across the entire Russell’s Reserve portfolio.

Exploring whiskey’s “terroir” by examining how the specific location of the ageing barrels influences the final whiskey, the latest release from Camp Nelson B showcases how the unique ageing conditions influence the whiskey’s proof point and shape its distinctive taste.

Built in 1946 and still standing tall today, Camp Nelson Rickhouse B is centrally located on the Camp Nelson grounds. The seven-floor rickhouse benefits from higher elevation and increased sun exposure compared to the rickhouses of the previous iterations that sat closer to the Kentucky River and its shady treeline.

The hot environment was integral in developing the whiskey’s oaky profile and a significant contributing factor to its impressively high proof point of 120.2. It is not only the highest proof entry in the Single Rickhouse Collection to date but the highest proof of any Russell’s Reserve bottling ever released.

For Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson B, Master Distiller Eddie Russell and his team selected barrels from the sixth floor, where the climate is generally warmer.

“The higher we went, the hotter it got, and the more oak we got in the whiskeys. For Camp Nelson B, we wanted to make sure we were really showcasing the rich, dark honey and char notes that we tend to get from that rickhouse, and we had a feeling that the bourbon we were looking for was sitting up there, enjoying the sun,” said Eddie Russell.

“This bottling of Single Rickhouse embodies the essence of Russell’s Reserve, and I couldn’t be prouder of the final product – it’s truly one of our best.”

The result is a bourbon that exemplifies Eddie’s skill in barrel curation and celebrates the idea that where whiskey is aged is just as important to its character as the raw ingredients and time spent in the barrel. Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson B is a rich and complex whiskey, non-chill filtered and bottled at a barrel proof of 120.2, to be savoured and enjoyed.

Starting with American Metal’s award-winning 90-proof Tennessee straight whiskey incorporates American Metal’s new patent-pending sonic infusion process, the distinctive sound of The Disciple—a custom motorcycle handcrafted by co-founder and Master Builder Josh Allison.

“Infusing the signature sound of a custom bike that I built into the whiskey has never been done before, and it delivers a taste that is truly iconic in my opinion,” explains Allison. “Our innovative approach allows us to show a clear transformation from point A to point B due to the sound of the motorcycle and marks an industry milestone by merging motorcycle sounds and whiskey.”

This patent-pending process employs the sounds of The Disciple’s vintage 1941 Harley-Davidson EL Knucklehead engine, played through a waterproof speaker that is submerged inside the new American Oak barrels to directly interact with the liquid.

This infusion technique imparts rich, complex tasting notes and a unique colour to the whiskey, reflecting American Metal’s commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, boundary-pushing innovation, and a passion for creating custom vehicles and extraordinary whiskey.
