The Sydney bar scene is about to be taken over by a surge of Southern USA hospitality with the launch of a new bar Jolene’s.
Designed to be all about live music, whiskey, cocktails and that all-important southern hospitality, the bar will offer you a warm welcome to its basement York Street location.
Established by industry veteran, Peter Fischer (NOLA Smokehouse and Bar, The Swinging Cat) and, award-winning hospitality personality, Simon Rose-Hopkins (NOLA Smokehouse & Bar, Surly’s American Tavern, Webster’s bar & a stint as Bacardi’s whiskey brand ambassador), Jolene’s will offer something new to the Sydney hospitality scene.
“I’ve had some amazing experiences during my travels of the US, walking into a bar and within 5 minutes I’m friends with everybody and being told the city’s best places to eat/drink, even had a bartender drive me to Jack Daniel’s and back the next day, after only meeting them the night before,” explained Rose-Hopkins.
The beverage program is designed to bring a fun new approach to Bourbon, Rye and Tennessee whiskey. Simon affectionately calls it “Redneck Tiki”, showcasing the versatility of the spirits and encourages them to be used in non-traditional flavour matchings.
Live music is slated for Friday and Saturday nights, supporting local Country & Western acts. The food is sure to please and transport guests to the south, with three kinds of hot dogs – using only the best handmade franks that are smoked to perfection in Sydney. Deep fried mac ‘n’ cheese balls and cheesy nachos round out the opening food offering.
The venue is set to open late February. For more information, follow the bar on Instagram
