The Margarita is known for balancing the agave notes of tequila with citrus sourness, but Chiara Mascellaro added something extra to the mix when she created her Patrón Perfectionists Margarita of the Year.
The Italian bartender added rich floral rose notes to make a drink inspired by the patron saint of her home city Palermo, Italy, her Rosalia Margarita.
The Patrón Perfectionists Margarita of the Year was launched by Difford’s Guide on 22 February to coincide with International Margarita Day. It saw 45 former Patrón Perfectionists global finalists submit their take on the classic cocktail, with the winner determined by public vote.
“We were really pleased with the quality of each cocktail recipe and with the level of public engagement,” said Simon Difford, founder and publisher of Difford’s Guide.
“Chiara’s creation is delicately bittersweet, with balancing citrus sourness and rich floral rose, which combine brilliantly with the agave notes of PATRÓN Silver. We look forward to seeing consumers and bartenders alike replicate the Rosalia at home. Congratulations, Chiara!”
This year’s quest saw a focus on home cocktail making, with bartenders encouraged to explore the potential of a Margarita using everyday ingredients. Dedicated to women, Mascellaro’s Margarita variation was a delicate balance of Silver Tequila, rose and subtle bitter notes.

Dedicated to women, Mascellaro’s creation was designed to bring attention to Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. “I am absolutely delighted to see my Rosalia was voted Margarita of the Year, particularly as this cocktail represents a cause that is very important to me.”

Rosalia Cocktail
Ingredients
- 40ml PATRÓN Silver tequila
- 10ml Martini Riserva Speciale Bitter
- 10ml Fresh lemon juice
- 15ml Rose syrup
Instructions
Shake all the ingredients and double strain directly into the coupe glass with Himalayan pink salt for the rim.
