Basic, clean, efficient; the two-ingredient cocktail offers flavour and a little fizz, as well as the ability to get on with your life, talk to friends and actually enjoy yourself rather than being a slave to your jigger.

But while it all sounds super easy, there are a number of things that you need to remember when putting together something so simple.

Despite appearances, the perfect two-ingredient cocktail takes a bit of work but follow some of out tops below and you can create a two-ingredient cocktail that is set up with the definitely a level above.

Bring the quality

One of the most important things to remember when making two-ingredient cocktails is to use quality ingredients. With so few elements, here is nowhere for you ingredients to hide, so it’s important not to skimp on the spirits and mixers you use.

Bigger isn’t better

While you may think you want a really tall, long drink, don’t be fooled into using oversized glasses. Smaller glasses will ensure that the ration between spirit and mixer is right and as the ice starts to melt, it will ensure you won’t end up with a watered-down mess.

Make it cold

Two ingredient cocktails are drinks that really need to be ice cold, so don’t scrimp on the ice. use quality ice where you can but also ensure that the cubes are full size so it doesn’t melt too quickly and finally, fill the ice to the top of the glass.

Minimise your mixers

While buying a big bottle of your chosen mixer might seem economical, it really is a false economy. Where it’s Tonic Water, Soda Water, Coke or Ginger Ale, once you open the bottle, the carbonation will start to go flat. Always remember, little bottles hold their bubbles better.
