There’s nothing better than settling on the couch to watch your favourite show, especially if you have a cocktail in your hand.

No, we’re wrong, there is something better and that would be having a cocktail that was designed specifically for the show you are watching.

If you are a fan of the show Alienist, then New York bar Death & Co certainly have a treat for you. The bar has created a cocktail menu that celebrates the release of the second series of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness.

As the hit show, takes place in New York City at the turn of last century, it seems only fitting that broadcaster TNT should team up with Death & Co, who has created 10 exclusive cocktails inspired by the drama, its characters, and the 19th century.

Starring Dakota Fanning, Daniel Brühl and Luke Evans, the series looks at the ‘alienation’ of the mentally and criminally ill from their true selves, with Fanning playing a fierce aspiring female police detective.

Sara’s Evening Ritual has of course been created to celebrate that main character, Sara Howard and is a variation on a Gold Rush (which is a variation itself on a Whiskey Sour but one that is sweetened with honey rather than regular sugar).

The drink starts with Angostura Bitters and fresh Mint leaves. To that 3/4oz of Honey Syrup is added, along with 3/4oz of lemon Juice and 2oz Bourbon. It is then shaken and fine strain into a rocks glass.

Kreizler’s Glass is the cocktail that they created for the character Dr Kreizler and is a variation on a Manhattan. It starts with two dashes of Angostura Bitters, followed by a teaspoon of Amaretto. This is followed by 3/4oz of Sweet Vermouth, 1/2 oz Apple Brandy, topped off with 1.5oz Bourbon. That is then stirred in a mixing glass and strained.

Other cocktails created by the team include Matron of the Arts, which is made with Scotch whisky, vermouth, creme de cacao, Peychaud’s Bitters and Campari.

Moores Lemonade, made with gin, lemon juice, earl grey tea and sparkling wine, and the Superior Sleuth, which combines bourbon, coffee liqueur, maraschino, Chartreuse and Angostura Bitters.

Alongside the new cocktails, Death & Co has created two videos featuring head bartender Shannon Tebay, which provide insight into The Alienist and the characters from the show.

Each video covers the history and culture of drinking in New York during the 19th century and walks the audience through one of the whiskey-based cocktails inspired by the show’s characters.
